On Tuesday, students traveled to the beautiful Paramount Theatre to watch a performance of Freedom Bound. The play chronicled the true story of slave, Addison White. In 1856, Addison White traveled from Kentucky to Ohio on the Underground Railroad. While he was in Ohio, White was given work and shelter by abolitionist, Udney Hyde. In the end, Hyde and the citizens of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, purchased Addison White’s freedom from his slave owner who pursued him from Kentucky. The play was a great learning experience for students, and it tied into several learning standards that are taught later during the year in social studies.
