| Spring looks like it has finally sprung in Virginia! Just like anybody else, students often catch a sense of “spring fever” when warm weather appears after a long winter. It may be very difficult for them to concentrate within the confines of the school building when they are daydreaming about enjoying the wonderful weather. Luckily, at Stony Point, there are several outdoor areas in which students can learn during beautiful stretches of weather. This week, fourth graders took part in two outdoor lessons. First, students had part of their introduction to plants lesson in the school’s Japanese Garden. After learning the main parts of a plant, students had the opportunity to sketch and label the main parts of a choice plant growing in the Japanese Garden. Second, students had the opportunity to build a gallon on the outdoor recess pavement. This was a fun activity that gave students a better visualization of the customary units of liquid measurement. We expect to spend more time outdoors during the rest of the third and fourth quarters! |
